CME/CE PRESENTATION

Moving Beyond Meal Plans: How to Transition Clients to Intuitive Eating

PRESENTER: Michelle Russell, RD, LD, CEDS

DETAILS: Meal plans provide a framework for normalized eating patterns in early recovery from an
eating disorder. Transitioning from a meal plan to more internally-directed eating assists clients in long term self-management of eating in recovery. Timing of transitioning each client to less structure is important to prevent behaviors returning, and this presentation will help clinicians determine when a client is ready and what steps to take to integrate Intuitive Eating.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify different types of meal plans used in eating disorder recovery.
2. Describe the principles of Intuitive Eating and the evidence base behind internally-directed eating
philosophies and Health at Every Size.
3. Identify when a client is ready to transition from a meal plan to less structure.
4. Apply a step-by-step transition to Intuitive Eating with emphasis on relapse prevention.
